To promote the biennial semester exhibition, where university students are allowed to present their project work to the public at the end of each semester, I designed a structure that functions as a giant display with two colleagues.
We started by considering different concepts and ideas. Once we had decided on the large display in the stairwell, we started to work on the construction. Together we thought about what materials we could use, built small prototypes and then put the idea into practice in a two-day sprint.
Semi-transparent insulating film from the home improvement store was used as the projection surface. The projection was carried out using two projectors, which were installed and mapped on two different floors of the building. The projection was initiated automatically via a timer as soon as it got dark outside and the university emptied.
The primary challenges we encountered during construction were in the assembly phase, where we had to construct a gallery approximately 10 meters high and in 3 meters distance.
We faced challenges in maintaining the overall weight of the construction as low as possible while ensuring maximum stability and sufficient tension on the carrier cable.
